The story
Dou Yi, son of the virtuous Dou Yanshan, stopped at an inn on his way to the examinations. Heaven sent the Spirit of Gold in the shape of a girl to test him: she knocked at his door in the night and threatened to drown herself if refused. He kept the door shut. In the morning he dug in the ground and found an ingot of gold.
What it means
The image is of an even, upright heart, and the sign is settled and free of danger. A gold thread weighs your mind and finds it neither short nor heavy.
