The story
At the end of the Sui, Yang Yichen held Dongling Pass with the Bronze Banner formation, and Qin Shubao could not break it. Learning that the officer guarding the array was his own cousin Luo Cheng, he approached his aunt, who ordered her son to defend the banner openly and help his cousin secretly. The pass fell and Qin Shubao returned victorious.
What it means
The image is trusting what is real rather than what is empty, and the counsel is to keep to the old. You asked for safety and received it, and the promise you made has not been kept. The sign is about credit: a word given to heaven, or to a person, cannot be dropped simply because circumstances have moved on. Others have their opinions and you need not hurry. Keep faith and keep your part, and the help working quietly behind you will not withdraw.

Keep to your own portion, without greed and without haste. Only what has been honestly earned will actually stay with you.

Much here is only appearance. Cultivate your character and widen your good connections; a grateful heart is what attracts genuine affection.

Compassion and intelligence together. Relationships decide almost everything, and promotion rests on the goodwill built up over many ordinary days.
Health
A mind without resentment is a healthier mind. Keeping promises, and cultivating the heart, has a genuine curative effect too.
Travel
Keep to your part and do not rush. Prepare thoroughly and the journey goes very much as you want it to.

The vow you made back then is due now.
