The story
Under Emperor Renzong, Bao Zheng was prefect of Kaifeng. The imperial father-in-law Pang Hong had the general Di Qing framed and imprisoned. Bao Zheng was ordered to try the case, and Pang Hong, terrified, obstructed him at every turn. The truth came out and the charge was shown to be false, but the emperor released him because he was imperial kin.
What it means
The image is a wooden tiger with an imposing look, and the sign is mostly false alarm. You were told plainly there is no obstruction, and what frightens you is your own hesitation. Snow on a hot stove, words past the ear, the danger is at the front and the good fortune behind. Doing something generous helps dissolve it. The real obstacle is not the tiger in the doorway but your repeated suspicion. Look closely, see that it is wood, and walk past.
