Dou Yanshan Accumulates Merit

Auspicious

The poem

The soaring pagoda is no ordinary thing, exquisite on eight sides, and shining from them all;set your will, and bow before it faithfully, for heaven sends blessing down on those who do good.

The story

Dou Yujun of Yanshan was middle-aged and childless. One night he dreamed his dead father rebuked him and told him to leave off evil and do good. He reformed completely, founded free schools and relieved the poor. Five sons were born to him afterwards, and every one of them passed the examinations and rose high, as the Three Character Classic records.

What it means

The image is merit becoming visible, and the sign is greatly favourable. The tower is remarkable and shines from every face; set your intention, bow sincerely, and heaven sends down blessing on those who do good. The good fortune here is not accidental, since the light shows because the character behind it has been built. Everyone can see these blessings, and there is no need to hurry about, for they were settled beforehand. Only keep doing good and keep the reverence steady.

Advice

A tower is built one course at a time, and so is the light it gives.
