The Judgment
Splitting Apart. It does not further one to go anywhere. Five yielding lines have grown up from below and the single firm line at the top is about to fall. Structures are eroding from within and the process cannot be argued with. This is a time to stay still, protect the base, and let what is finished finish.
The Image
The mountain rests on the earth: the image of splitting apart. Thus those above can ensure their position only by giving generously to those below, since a base that is hollowed out cannot hold anything up.
Interpretation
Something is coming apart, gradually and from underneath. This is a difficult hexagram but not a hopeless one, and its advice is unusually clear: do not act, do not travel, do not launch, do not fight. Any energy you spend pushing forward now is simply lost. Instead, withdraw, reduce your commitments, and strengthen whatever foundation you still have. If you hold a position of responsibility, the way to protect it is to be generous downward, because erosion always starts at the base. Accept that some things are ending. Let them. Trying to preserve a structure whose time has passed will exhaust you and delay the renewal that follows. The image at the end of the hexagram is a single great fruit left uneaten, carrying the seed of the next cycle. Something survives this. Keep yourself intact, keep your integrity, and wait; the turn is closer than it looks.

A relationship or an attachment is wearing away, and forcing it will only accelerate the damage. Be honest about what is actually left. Sometimes the kindest and strongest act available is to stop holding on. Grieve it properly, protect your dignity, and refuse to bargain for what is already gone.
