The Judgment
Development. The maiden is given in marriage; good fortune. Perseverance furthers. A tree grows on the mountain, slowly and according to its nature. Lasting things develop through proper stages that cannot be skipped: courtship before marriage, apprenticeship before mastery. Follow the sequence faithfully and what you build will endure.

On the mountain, a tree: the image of Development. Thus the superior man abides in dignity and virtue in order to improve the customs of those around him. His influence spreads slowly and takes root.
Interpretation
Progress is available to you, but only in its proper order and at its proper pace. This hexagram follows the wild goose through six stages, from shore to cliff to plateau to tree to summit to the high air, and the whole lesson is in that orderly ascent.
