Wu Ji Finds His Master

Auspicious

The poem

Blockage departs and ease arrives, a hand's breadth away;for now keep company with the gentleman come down from the hills. If tiger and rabbit meet you, the news will be good;fix your resolve, and in the bustle things fall into place.

The story

The woodcutter Wu Ji laughed at Jiang Ziya fishing with a straight hook, and Ziya read his face and told him he would kill a man in the city that day. Wu Ji scoffed, then accidentally killed the prime minister while carrying firewood and was held under sentence of death. His mother sent him back to Jiang Ziya, who took him as a disciple, taught him strategy, and found a way to break his fate.

What it means

The image is blessing hidden inside disaster. The turn from blocked to easy is only a hand's breadth away; the worst stretch has reached its end and you are stepping out of the dark. Two things matter. The first is the teacher: the person willing to come down from the hills and instruct you is where your turn of fortune lives. The second is timing, since tiger and rabbit months, the first and second lunar months, tend to bring the good news. What you should do now is fix a direction, and the confusion sorts itself out.

By area of life

Wealth

Finances have been unsatisfactory, but the good run is arriving. The first and second lunar months are for positioning; delay transactions rather than rushing.

Love

Romance stirs in the first and second lunar months, so take the chance. Only a couple who have weathered a real quarrel are ready to discuss marriage.

Work

Both work and enterprise must pass through a low stretch, after which the view opens. Just after the new year is the time to look for a position.

Health

The dark stretch of your health is ending and improvement is in sight. Get past this one obstacle and autumn turns favourable.

Travel

The early stage abroad is hard, but sustained and determined effort brings the result you wanted, so do not be put off by a difficult start.

Advice

The hardest part is already behind you; find the person willing to teach you, set your direction, and go.
