The Judgment
Fellowship with men in the open. Success. It furthers one to cross the great water. The perseverance of the superior person furthers. Union succeeds when it happens in daylight, on principles anyone may examine, rather than in a private circle. A fellowship of that kind is strong enough to attempt great undertakings.
The Image
Heaven together with fire: the image of fellowship with men. Thus the superior person organises the clans and makes distinctions between things, understanding people clearly in order to unite them honestly.
Interpretation
This hexagram is about finding your people and doing something real together. The emphasis falls on openness. A partnership formed around a genuine shared purpose, transparent to outsiders, can achieve far more than any of its members alone, including things that look impossible. A clique formed around private advantage or family favouritism will look like the same thing and will fail. So examine your alliances honestly. Are you including people on merit and shared values, or on comfort and familiarity? Are the terms something you would be happy to say aloud? This is also a good time to reconcile, to join a wider effort, and to accept that agreement will follow a period of friction. The hexagram acknowledges that real fellowship often begins with a struggle and a great deal of noise before people finally meet. Stay open, stay principled, and the union will hold.
Love
Love based on friendship, shared values, and genuine mutual understanding. Bring the relationship into the open rather than keeping it private. Community, shared projects, and mutual friends strengthen this bond considerably. Build the relationship in daylight, among friends, on principles you would both state aloud.
Career
Team efforts, partnerships, and open collaboration succeed now. Build coalitions on stated principles rather than back-channel deals. Include people beyond your usual circle; the outside perspective is exactly what makes the venture work. Coalitions built on stated principles will outlast anything arranged in a back channel.
