The Judgment
Return. Success. Going out and coming in without error. Friends come without blame. To and fro goes the way. On the seventh day comes return. It furthers one to have somewhere to go. A single strong line returns at the very bottom, like the first day of lengthening light. The turn has already happened.
The Image
Thunder within the earth: the image of the turning point. Thus the kings of antiquity closed the passes at the time of solstice. Merchants and strangers did not go about, and the ruler did not travel through the provinces.
Interpretation
The low point has passed. Something is beginning again, quietly and at a scale so small it would be easy to miss: a returning appetite, a first good day, a lost thread picked up. The hexagram is about honouring that fragile beginning properly. The new energy is real but it is not yet strong, so give it shelter. Rest, reduce activity, avoid big commitments, keep to a small circle of people who support you. This is the winter solstice of your situation, and the correct response to it is quiet rather than celebration. There is also a moral sense to Return that is worth taking seriously: coming back to a path you had drifted from, resuming a practice, repairing something you let lapse.
