The Judgment
The Caldron. Supreme good fortune. Success. The sacred vessel stands over fire, transforming raw ingredients into food fit for the gods and for wise men. After revolution comes the ordering of what has been won. This is a time of cultivation, refinement and nourishment, in which what you build serves something beyond yourself.
The Image
Fire over wood: the image of the Caldron. Thus the superior man consolidates his fate by making his position correct. Standing rightly, he becomes a vessel through which something worthwhile can be made.
Interpretation
The caldron is the vessel that turns raw material into nourishment, and this hexagram places you in the role of both the vessel and the cook. Something is being cultivated here: talent, a body of work, a culture, a person you are helping to grow. The conditions are unusually favourable, and the hexagram carries one of the most positive judgments in the book. What it asks is care in the details. A vessel with broken legs spills everything, so make sure your foundations, your health, your finances, your basic arrangements, are actually sound before you fill it. Clear out what has gone stale, even if that means an awkward emptying at the start. Accept help and expect a little envy from those who see you doing well. Above all, remember what the caldron is for: it does not feed itself. Work that nourishes other people, done with attention and refinement rather than haste, is what makes this period so quietly successful.
